The Chair

Postby Ajax » Wed May 13, 2020 3:36 pm

Ugh! I just had a nerve-wracking experience. The clipper guards finally arrived so I had to sit in the chair for a haircut.

The wife was all "Hold my beer!" and I'm screaming "Wait, wait! Set the blades to take less!" I'm not especially vain but I have an ugly spud and you don't want to see it without any hair.

In the end, I escaped with an acceptable haircut marred by a slight divot near my occipital bone. Next time, we're going to have to figure out how to taper back there without the bone screwing it up. We left it longer than I normally do with the Navy barber but there was still nearly a full dustpan of hair on the floor. At least I got rid of that furry shit on my neck.

I'm past due for a haircut, but I've cut my own for years. It isn't that hard with the clippers and with a bit of practice it can yield acceptable results.

Either I do an ok enough of a job or people are too nice to say anything.

Andy, same here! It's all about dexterity and mirror skills. I haven't been to an actual barber since 1970.

And I look....MAH-vellous.

Dude, I look like a refugee from the 70's. Biggest sideburns I've ever had. I no look so good, but some might say I had a head start.

I told my wife that I'd grow a ponytail.

I cut Susan’s hair today..........fortunately it came out OK, Lord Knows How!!

(I don’t have any hair now, so not a problem during the chemo.)

You're a braver man than I am Gunga Din. And more skilled.

Having met Susan I suspect she can handle much worse than Kim cutting hair. Having said that, it looks to be a pretty good job!

I think you did a pretty good job. (But, I also know that Susan is far to kind to tell you she HATES IT!! ;) )

I started cutting my own hair about 4 years ago but I never got the hang of it - especially the back side.

About 2 years ago, my (then) 9 year old daughter started helping out. Lately, she does the whole cut by herself. I just sit there and keep my mouth shut. She does better than many pros that I have hired.

I'm looking more and more like my HS yearbook picture (if both were black and white). Hoping to get mine cut next week.

I'll let Sue trim my neck. After that, I'll wait.

I'm sporting a mohawk currently. Easy upkeep and I'll just buzz it down if I have to go back into the office. The center piece can never be too long. ;)

Mine isn't nearly that magnificent. :(
Ajax, I feel ya. I try not to care too much about hair, but a bad haircut is a bad haircut. Most women I've had cut my hair aren't very good. It seems they think it's easy b/c it's short and 1/2 way through they realize that blending 1/4" length hair is a royal PITA. You can hide a lot of mistakes in 18" of hair, not so much in 1/2".
