Stuck in the airport.... dreaming of sailing

Postby BeauV » Wed Mar 23, 2016 2:32 pm

Today I got to the Denver airport by 06:45 to catch the early flight to San Francisco.... it had already snowed 3-6 inches and the wind speed was about 30k, but what the heck.

It's now 13:48, the airport is closed, Peña Road that leads in/out of the airport is "impassible" and the plows are working their way through the cars, trucks and busses that are stuck on the road and in the ditches along the side.... it will take a long long while.

I think I'm probably going to be sleeping on the floor of the airport.... hmm.....

Beau,

I know the pain. I was stuck for most of a night in Orlando airport a few weeks ago....along with a bunch of families heading home from Disney vacations (I was there on business). Given the choice, I'd prefer Denver airport.

You could be dreaming of skiing instead ....

Denver is our second home, but we have always made it out OK, the deicing procedures are interesting though.

The third flight I was booked out on has just been cancelled.

So, UAL is trying to get me back home and it's looking like it may be Saturday before I get home! EEEEK!!!!

Do you want to meet the kids? It's always party time in Denver.

Isn't this fun? Is there a bar to camp out in? Though I'm thinking food and a comfortable seat more than the booze.

A couple weeks ago my 6pm flight from Stuttgart to Amsterdam got delayed due to an equipment failure, which meant I missed my connection to Taipei. I got re-scheduled a day later at 1am to fly STR-FRA-HKG-TPE on 3 different airlines, but because of that I have no time to go home before my flight from Taipei to Shanghai. I should have learned to take the train and the Frankfurt direct flight after the time before I came within minutes of missing my flight after running across Schiphol like a madman. Luggage was left behind for 3 days. But then the German train system is delayed all the time too....

I'm glad they caught the failure on the ground; the electronic braking system failed. They tried "re-booting" the aircraft several times to no avail. They didn't not appreciate my humor when I suggested they remove the battery on the next try.
