Hockey Fans Take Note ...

Postby Tigger » Thu Mar 14, 2013 1:54 am

The band in which I play (Band of the 15th Field Regiment, Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery) will be playing the anthems at the Canucks game tomorrow night. There will only be 2 trumpet players, and the other one on the gig is most definitely a girl ... so on the off chance that you happen to either be at the game or are watching on TV (and TSN does not cut away to a commercial break during the anthems--har har) that's me on the ice at Rogers Arena.

I've done this one once before--it's always an honour to play the anthem(s) in uniform, but pretty damn cool to do it on the ice at an NHL game.

Tiggs:
I can't find it on my DISH program guide. There is a NHL game on but it's not the Canuks. Does it start at 7pm? 8pm?

Bob: start time is 7pm PDT. Game is broadcast on TSN here in Canada--your cable provider may not carry the feed.

I can't find TSN on my programmer. I'll keep looking. It would be nice to get Canuks ganes. Seems like I have done this before.

Unfortunately, Shaw Cable ran ads throughout the anthem so we didn't get to see you play.

Darn, no coverage at all here, direct TV does not seem to have TSN, at least my channel package doesn't.

It was a blast! The crowd sings along loudly, which is a great tradition--and it is deafening on the ice at the end of the anthems when they all start cheering. Amazing how close the crowd feels, even those in the upper deck.

CDS (Chief of the Defense Staff, our equivalent to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the US--highest ranking military person in the country) came in after we played and offered some heartfelt and authentic compliments. That was nice.

We got to stay for the game (they played well, winning 7-4) and at the end we were invited onto the ice to meet the players. Here I am with Andrew Alberts. I'm 5' 10" wearing parade boots--he's a BIG boy.

Please don't tell anybody, but Her Majesty actually pays me to do this!
