Strongest recorded Atlantic Hurricane. Cyclones/typhoons in the pacific are commonly much stronger, etc. Keep in mind, prior to 1964, we only knew about hurricanes that either made landfall or were reported by ships and offshore observations were pretty spotty even into the 80's so "ever" is a bold claim.
Massive and likely deadly? Absolutely. Some tracks come out way and strong possibility my daughter and future grandchild in Tampa are going to cop it so I'm watching the model runs closely.

She is HR director at a local/regional charity with a shelter. Planning on staying despite being 6 months preggers.
Your plate seems to be loading up Larry. Is surgery done or pending ?LarryHoward wrote:Well, Daughter and family (Son-in-law, Step Grand daughter and grandchild due in Dec) are going to ride it out in Tampa. Newer house rated for Cat 3, 22' above sea level a couple of miles inland from Tampa Bay, hurricane shutters installed and all stocked up and gassed up.
Guess I won't sleep much tomorrow night.
Other daughter's boyfriend flew to Miami to help his non evacuating parents prep and clean up so she is worried although latest track suggests Miami will be spared the worst.
I weathered a lot of hurricanes as a kid in Florida but this is a big one.
