If it ain't about boats, it should go here.

Here's my real travel problem: I am phobic about leaving home. If I'm traveling for pleasure or with my wife, it's not so bad, but I go through a week or so of anxiety and depression before business trips these days and it's become a significant issue. The stupidest part is that the actual traveling doesn't bother me unduly and I nearly always enjoy it once I get there.

And it's really not just business. Larry, that rock of good sense and levelheadedness, can tell you about talking me down once, a couple of weeks before a Bermuda race.

Of course if you really want bragging rights.... Nothing says crazy airplane like a 757.

Exactly. And what I'm willing to pay for bragging rights: $0.

Bragging rights are worthless, going out and enjoying/using your stuff is where it is at.

I used to fly on company King Air's and Gulfstreams a lot. It was a nice way to fly, but 1/2 of the flights were taking me away from my family.

A lot of guys in Midland have jets. Most, but not all of them, are on second or third wives. I knew a long time ago how hard I would have to work to afford a jet and made a conscious decision not to, as it would have taken too much time from the family. I'm not rich, but I'm very happy with life.

I totally agree with Beau's statement about building a safe "fortress" for the family, but I figure that part is pretty well done. The big thing is my daughter with health issues.

Pretty much the same issues, except for the rock climbing.
We do at least two long haul overseas flights a year, the worst was Sydney Dallas, 17 hours, on top of two connections to Hobart and Denver.
Just use premium economy, I take a few Naproxen, and I have become quite adept at finding exit row seats on domestic flights as well

Funny how we do everything to plan, but it’s our kid’s unexpected health issues that become the main game...

Yes, I have one in four with a serious medical condition. So far, her insurance has covered things. But....... you both know the drill. How do we plan for that?? I wish I knew.
