Sweet! Only good tumor is a dead tumor.

Yay! From Lynne: Doc just left - surgery went great, able to remove tumor without need for grafts or bypasses. Tumor appears dead but being sent for testing - should be able to see him in about 90 minutes.

Been following your treatment Larry, but have not commented due to being unfamiliar with (and scared of) this business of "beating cancer" (we are 0 - 4 in my immediate fam).

What a terrific show of strength.

Well,

Awake and feeling. Bit of pain. Talked with the surgeon. 5 hour job. No graft needed. Actual attachment was the right diaphragmatic crux the aorta involvement was just a forming of the tumor to space available. Tumor is off to the pathologist but the quick look was that it appeared to be just necrotic tissue - the best possible result from the chemo and radiation treatments.

We are very fortunate to have a great medical team and better friends.

Wow. What a relief!

My partially informed imagining is that they had to slice you almost in half and bend the edges apart to get all the way back there and see what the hell they were doing, so a little pain might be expected. :o

Take it easy and get strong. Think the medical guy will stick to his chemo threat?

I expect he will. He’s pretty old school conservative in treatment. Reason for post surgical chemo is to chase down any “micro” metastasis that escaped the primary site. Knowing that the chemo is effective in killing this specific molecular mix will be all the more reason to keep the chemo going. However, we shall see.

Incision is 6-7” midline. He said it was deep inside and it too a lot of work to get it out. Plan is to discharge me Friday/Saturday and see him in clinic on Tuesday for staple removal. Then head back to the county the following weekend.

Maybe you can squeeze in a dram of scotch between the surgery and the re-start of chemo.

This is great, we have all winter to plan the big Man Cruise on your boat for next May or June!

Some things better unsaid. Just got rid of the foley a couple of hours ago. These things take time.

We had a Jane Foley in high school. Seemed pleasant enough. Married one of the jocks.

I can’t say I enjoyed mine. They put it in and took it out while I was asleep, but I sure noticed something had been in there. I wonder if they deflated the balloon...
