I like the way you're thinking, Beau. Sometimes I think I'm already retired and I'm just doing this stuff for fun. :)

That is a very positive place to be in. Good on ya , Sons. : ) It would be fantastic if there were more folks who were as upbeat about their work. It must be very difficult to go to work at a job that one doesn't enjoy or feel challenged by.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy my profession. I have been fortunate to have worked in a field which offers much challenge and diversity if one chooses to pursue that. I have sought out and experienced a wide range of practise, including teaching at a University level to where I am currently working. The only major drawback has been decades of not having a regular, routine set of work hours. I have missed celebrations and holiday gatherings with family over the years due to my work. My hours in many cases prevented me from participating on certain teams and doing various activites on a regular basis. It could be far worse, but I am looking forward to setting my own work days and hours and saying no when I want to do other things.

Ish, one more sleep. I can't imagine what you are feeling. All the best to you.

Thanks, Lin. It's Party On. One bottle of Shiraz tonight, one more day at the sweatshop. Sting concert tomorrow night, I'm looking forward to the future.

It's a good thing I don't have an AK-47, I'd be out in the street with it shooting at the moon.

At some point we'll share an anchorage--I'll bring the wine. Well, the first bottle anyway. Congrats!

OK Ish,

It's time to get that Mohawk and Nine-Inch Nails tattoo you've always wanted. You made it, buddy. You're on the bright side of the moon with the rest of us old farts!! Welcome aboard.

Ish, I'm afraid that you're about to learn the horrible secret: You will now have *less* free time than before.

But, that's a good thing, because it's mostly stuff you want to do. Just be careful what you sign up for! At this point I prescribe a good dose of deliberate relaxation.

Congratulations!

I was just talking to my haircutter the other day. He figures the best I can do would be an inverse Mohawk.
An aquamarine Kingfisher was my first choice but that is definitely out of the question unless I limit it to my eyebrows.

Done.
My compatriots at work bought me a bottle of Glenmorangie 12 yr Extra Sauternes Cask Aged. I'm drinking it right now, with a splash of water, it's got an interesting citrus undertone. It's yummy.
I came home to a Happy Retirement balloon bouquet outside the front door, and a couple of Hawaiian shirts for my geezer years.
I'm free. :D

My brother quit work today, too. He's off to China to seek his fortune in food and wine.

Ain't that the truth. I got out nearly 5 years ago and I can't believe how little "free" time I have. I don't know how I ever found time to hold down a job.

I read a very apropos line once - "Now that I'm retired I get up every morning with nothing to do all day. When I go to bed half of it still isn't done."

Well, since I have a haulout at 11:10 tomorrow morning, I'm afraid my first full day of retirement will be the hardest work I've done for months. Fark.
Strip the Poli Glow off the entire hull, hit the shabby bootstripe with 600 grit wet/dry, put on 10 coats of Poli Glow, sand and paint the bottom, build steps for the stern ladder, rebuild the cockpit table, and Kiwi Grip the cockpit.
Tuesday's even worse.

Aaaaaww ... what type of cheese would you like to accompany that, er whine? ;) It's a lot of work, but when you drop anchor in some incredible, private & serene bay in July, you will kick back, breathe deeply, open a fantastic book and know it was worth it.

Ish - With a retirement work schedule like that, it sounds like you found a job you really love. If you can get along with the boss, you've got it made. One thought - Motrin. :) Pat

I'm with Lin.

I've got an old friend who retired a few years back. He was whining profusely about all the new electronics he was puting in the boat, the new espar heater, all the charts he had to buy... and on and on.

all the while grinning while he knew he was just rubbing it in.
