A page or so back we were talking about the Stones being over the hill. Lately I've been listening to their most recent record, Blue and Lonesome, released last year. It's covers of American blues songs, including a couple from Little Walter, a favorite of mine, and one by Magic Sam. It's the record they should have made a decade ago. They are really a good blues band, and Jagger's voice fits the material. In the sixties they covered Muddy Waters' Can't be Satisfied, and to many blues players that is still the definitive version of the song. Playing blues, at least, they still have it.
Sometimes I sit and think. Other times I just sit.

They talk about my drinking, but never my thirst.

I couldn't agree more! As Jagger has moved along into his 7th decade his voice has really developed the right tone for this stuff.

Can’t embed from the iPad, but if there are any high-classical chamber fans here, this is for you. These guys are simply amazing. I am finally understanding the Op.18 after 50 years.

Be sure to set the quality at 1080.

We saw the Stones a couple years ago. Keith can barely play any more, with Ron Woods doing the heavy lifting. Maybe it was just the drugs that one night, but it was sad to see him as a shell of his former self. When we saw The Who this year, Daltry and Townshend still had it. Clapton is still amazing. We were in the fourth row at MSG this summer for his show. (StubHub f-d our tickets, so they made it up to us!)

I played the prelude at church on Sunday:

Advent Prelude by Charles Callahan. Written for flute and organ, but we went to piano for a number of reasons including a faulty blower in the organ.

Just learned Alice Sara Ott has MS. She's one of my favorite concert pianists. For example:

Women like Sara and Sayaka Shoji almost make me believe there is a god. From where else could creatures as lovely and gifted arise?

Afflicting her with MS....not so much with the belief.

Read that Woodstock 50 has been cancelled because the town wanted to limit the crowd to 75,000, and they needed 100,000 to break even.

What he did to Jacqueline du Pré was pretty ugly too.

Absolutely. And Leon Fleisher, too....although I suspect that was more of a sports-related injury.

His daughter used to be, maybe still is, a good friend of Meine Frau. Tough guy to have for a pere, tell you one thing.

Fleischer's problem is tragic, but not on the same order. He could still play one-handed. He was one of the first musicians treated for focal dystonia with botox and got it here.

For whatever reason, "Angel From Montgomery" always chokes me up...... love the version by Bonnie Raitt with John Prine. I'm a huge admirer of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks; what an incredible family... then add Grace Potter, a flute and a segue into a great Dead tune puts this arrangement completely over the top:

One of my favorite songs. I even got to play it at the Rendezvous for the crowd.

Any rocker that grew up in the 70s has to hear these old farts. Kashmir at the O2 arena. Jason Bonham on drums.

I think of it as their redemption for sounding like shit at Live Aid.

Must be played really fucking loud.
