OH! Canada!

Happy Canada day to all my Canadian friends on Scantlings!

From my Canadian co-worker:

You know you're from Canada when ...
You only know three spices: salt, pepper and ketchup.
You design your Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
The mosquitoes have landing lights.
You have more kilometres on your snow blower than your car.
You have 10 favorite recipes for moose meat.
You live in a house that has no front step, yet the door is one metre above ground.
You've taken your kids trick-or-treating in a blizzard.
Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled in with snow.
You think sexy lingerie is tube-socks and a flannel nightie with only 8 buttons.
You owe more money on your snowmobile than your car.
The local paper covers national and international headlines on 2 pages, but requires 6 pages for hockey.
At least twice a year, the kitchen doubles as a meat processing plant.
The most effective mosquito repellent is a shotgun.
Your snowblower gets stuck on the roof.
You think the start of deer season is a national holiday.
You head south to go to your cottage.
You frequently clean grease off your barbecue so the bears won't prowl on your deck.
You know which leaves make good toilet paper.
The major parish fund-raiser isn't bingo it's sausage making.
You find -40C a little chilly.
The trunk of your car doubles as a deep freeze.
You attend a formal event in your best clothes, your finest jewelry and your Sorrels.
You can play road hockey on skates.
You know 4 seasons: Winter, Still Winter, Almost Winter, and Construction.
The municipality buys a Zamboni before a bus.
You understand the Labatt Blue commercials.
You perk up when you hear the theme from "Hockey Night in Canada".

Joe, many of those are sadly close to the truth, at least for anyplace east of here.
My wife is in Saskatoon this morning, flying to Winnipeg this afternoon, and she is already aghast at the mosquitoes. Everyone knows Winnipeg is the mosquito capital of the world, so she's not going to like this at all. The current flooding in Saskatchewan and Manitoba is making this a primo mosquito season. I may have to send some blood.

I LOVE CANADA DAY!

I met SWMBO 47 years ago tonight at a Canada Centennial Birthday Party. (Something about a meeting on PEI in 1867. )

I LOVE CANADA DAY!!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Great list Joe but the seasons are incorrect - Winter, Winter, Winter, Bad sledding. :D

Nice post Joe. I once left a plate of pickled moose meat out as an appetizer. I figured I would get to eat the whole plate to myself as the visual presentation wasn't one of my strongest forte. Not a chance in Canada. In fact I had to break into my secret stash to keep the crowd from mobbing me for more.

Thanks Joe!! Your post made me chuckle.
Those in the know, realize that most of those apply only to the Canucks that suffer ....er I mean live, east of the Rockies! ; ) Here on the west coast there is not much we can complain about.

My best friend lives in Ottawa (far east of here) and her 4 year old son woke up the other morning, with a face so swollen from a couple bites that he could not open one eye. All those mosquitoes and biting bugs would drive me nuts.

Kim, congrats to you and Susan on the 47'th anniversary of your meeting. Here's wishing you many, many more to celebrate.

It's a warm, sunny gorgeous day here and we are off to the park to enjoy the Canada Day festivities.

A colleague came to a committee meeting this afternoon wearing a patriotic Canadian tie and I was the only one to recognize why he was wearing it, thanks to Scantlings.

Cheers to all my Northern friends, from down here in Canada's shreddies.

LIN!! That is a GREAT vid. And, since I lost that bet and got a GREAT shirt, I could even sing along (badly).
