What's your favorite mixed drink recipe?

Well, I guess this is only slightly "Off Topic" on a sailing forum. But I thought I'd collect everyone's favorite mixed drink recipes.

I'll kick things off with my favorite:

The Loser

1 oz pisco
1/2 oz velvet falernum
3 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz black peppercorn syrup (instructions below)
1 oz club soda

Mix all but the club soda, add ice and shake. Strain into glass with ice, stir in soda, garnish with ground pepper (yes, really).

Black Peppercorn Syrup

1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup black peppercorns

Grind the peppercorns in a mortar until they're cracked. Bring the water to a boil and dissolve the sugar. Add the cracked peppercorns and let stand for 20 minutes. Can be refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.

It tastes like an island drink with a subtle spicy flavor - the pineapple and pepper go very well together. Very refreshing. It's called The Loser because it came in 2nd place in a cocktail competition.

Several oz. Bombay Sapphire gin
A capful of very good and fresh dry vermouth (not Martini & Rossi or Noilly Prat; if that's all you have, add two or three drops with a medicine dropper or .75 ml with a pipeter).
Two big stuffed olives
Add to ice and shake for a little too long
Strain into frosted glasses
Happy Friday, Mufukiz!

On a hot day either a rum & coke, rum & tonic or this Navy Grog recipe:

1 ounce Demerara rum

1 ounce Gosling’s Black Seal rum

1 ounce Cruzan Estate Light rum

¾ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

¾ ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

1 ounce honey syrup

¾ ounce club soda

Orange slice and cherry, for garnish.

Shake all liquid ingredients except club soda together with ice in cocktail shaker. Strain into Collins glass filled with ice, top with soda and add garnish.

Serves 1.

A good peaty single malt any time.

Wife and daughter recently brought me a bottle of Glengoyne Teapot Dram. I can't even begin to explain or describe, but let me tell you...

They bought it at the distillery after sampling nearly everything else. I just noticed that it's 120 proof.

Caesar - same as a Mary but made with Clamato instead of Tomato juice. Big shot of Worcestershire sauce and a dash of Tabasco in a tall glass, garnished with lime wedge & a celery stick or pickled green bean to stir with.

Might not be possible in the States - whenever I've asked for one all I got was a blank look from the bartender - is Clamato juice not available in the States?

I'm not fond of any drinks with sugar in them but one, it's first below, then the "real" drinks are listed:

Hawaii Hangover: Equal parts of the juice of Meyer Lemons, Simple Syrup, and a spiced rum like Sailor Jerry's (most any spiced rum will do). Pour over ice cubes. Can be made in big batches and kept in fridge for later. With all the sugar it'll last for months.

Venus Gibson: As much Venus Gin as you can tolerate in a cocktail shake full of ice, look at a vermouth bottle but don't open it, shake gin, pour into a frozen glass large enough to hold what you can tolerate (beer mug?), add 2 or 3 cocktail onions. Scowl a the vermouth bottle while leaving the drink mixing area. (Venus Gin is a local gin that is somewhat like Hendrick's but better.) This qualifies as a "mixed drink" because of the onions ;)

Tequila Neck Snapper: As much tequila as you can stand in a glass. Drink.

I like sour and bitter tastes and I like simple tastes. I also live in a tropical climate...so cool tall drinks are on order.

In no particular order these are things I find in my or my guests hands:

Cube a fresh pineapple and place in a glass jar. Pour over a liter or so of decent vodka and place in the fridge for 2-3 days. Serve over rocks in a lowball.

Pims cup: 1 part Pims, 2 parts lemonade, with cucumber over rocks in a highball.

Modified Garibaldi: Highball with ice and pineapple juice - layer Campari on the bottom.

Modified Dark & Stormy: Use a decent rhum agricole, bitters, calamansi and a strong ginger beer.

Lillet & Gin martinis....

Pastise with ice water.

Negronis: I've always like Negronis, but not the kind that get put in Martini glasses - lowball and rocks. When you do the orange peel, bend the peel into a lit match and light the oils - really infuses the drink - in fact, do that with most things that require a twist. It's magic.

Side Cars: Calvados, Rhum.....

There are some very nice American rums these days like 8 Bells. http://www.newenglanddistilling.com/spirits/rum/

woah. I didn't know you were old enough to drink.

1 part Sailor Jerry Rum
1/2 part OJ
1/2 part Cranberry Juice
1/4 part pink grapefruit.

The admiral makes it equal parts everything except pink grapefruit juice.

Clam ati is not common but I have a friend in Virginia Beach who gets it somewhere. Not sure if she buys it or makes it up herself. At one point she lived in Bermuda and I thing she acquired the taste while she was there.

Pretty common here, as is clam juice by the bottle.
