Scantlings

Pedersen bikes? I was just in Copenhagen and one evening was walking through Christiania with my host when we came upon the bike shop there. I knew of the Christiania "box bikes" (trikes with a cargo box in front) but had never seen or heard of the Pedersen bike. The "history" section on the following link is pretty interesting. Would be interested to hear what those of you who really know about bikes think about these:

Looks like an ill-handling, uncomfortable, and complex "improvement" to something pretty damn near perfect, but that's just one man's opinion.

Gee OM, you like them that much eh? The "history" link makes it clear that this is a 100+ year old design and not some new attempt at an "improvement." Still, your assessment may be right, the shop was closed when I was there so I couldn't take one for a spin. The Danes are pretty particular about their bikes though so I guess I'd be a bit surprised if it was a total failure...

The Danes are pretty particular about their bikes though so I guess I'd be a bit surprised if it was a total failure...

Oh, that much and more! I think the safety bicycle was already in its fourth or so decade 100+ years ago, but by all means try one out and let us know how it is. I would jump at the chance, myself. The Danes are sensible people, in my experience.
