Scantlings

Lots of smart folks here. I have a quick turn requirement for some LET strip lights to be permanently mounted behind some server racks with no rear access. Maintenance occurs by rolling the racks forward a couple of feet and tip toeing across the wires to the appropriate rack (series of 5 racks). I found these http://www.activeled.com/products/product_details/?P=889 and in the 175 watt equivalent size (PSL24-5520) they would be perfect except that they are made to order and lead time is 3-6 weeks. I need them in 2 or even better, next week.

Anybody got a source?

I ordered a set for under cabinets in my garage shop. 12' = $60 including power supply. You may be able to find cheaper.

Thanks Rick but looking more for high lumen lights in 24 or 48" length. Think windowless dim room with the occasional need to perform delicate surgery under strong light.

Larry, Cree makes a large variety of LED lights. You may find something there. Edit: You might also check Grainger or McMaster-Carr.

Larry, check out http://www.acuitybrandslighting.com/library/ll/documents/specsheets/zl1n.pdf it is a strip fixture and fairly common so lead time may not be that bad. We've been using the high lumen package, lensed version in parking garages lately.

I'm no help, but these look like VERY COOL engine room lights!

I talked to our electronics guru here at work and he said you can get lighting units from Middle Atlantic which attach to the racks and pull out when needed. That is what we use. If not an option then I would use the strip lights like those described by Slick but mount them in a series vertically on the back wall between each cabinet so the light comes in from the side and is not shadowed by the technician's head.

Thanks Joe. We use the pull outs on the front of the rack to provide some task lighting as folks operate the systems. Consensus is not enough light for "back of the rack use (patch panels 10U off the bottom of the rack, etc. I think I have found a couple of options (thanks guys) and am taking final measurements.

For engine room lighting, there are vapor proof "wet area" variants sitting in my electrical supplier's showroom. Like most commercial stuff, not sure how they would fare in salt air, but i'd go with those in an engine room.
