Pre-internet Catalog of dreams.

If you recognize these catalogs than your as old or older than me. Back in the 70's some of these catalogs were the doorway to the hardware required to make your dream ship come alive. I spent many nights pouring over the pictures and spec's dreaming of value, and costs to outfit the boat I did not even own yet. Now we have the internet. WOW how times have really changed. :o

That's great that you kept those. It must be fun to go through them once in a while. Here on the west coast we used to have a rigging/catalog named Spyglass (I think) out of S.F. back when I was getting into racing. It was invaluable to me because it showed lots of different rigging layouts and highlighted different boats. There were great interviews with all the top sailors of the day as well. I saved all the ones I could get my hands on but lost them in one of my moves.

Joe it brings a smile to the crowd at the pub when they go over the books. Some of the Nautical Nittwittery in those books is now considered collectible. Wait long enough and all the things I bought might come back in vogue . :)

"The Complete Ferro Cement Catalog"

There's a pun in there somewhere. An awesome pun.

Did you notice the spelling of catalog vs catalogue. The Ferro book is from British Columbia and Manhattan is USA. The cement craze was every where in the Ontario boat building scene. I crewed on two very different stone boats. Both were extremely well done for the chosen medium. Waiting for the Pun. It is out there I'm sure. LOL :)

The problem with punning in concrete is that once the pun sets there is no way to alter your forum. This explains why all of the Scantlingers are slumped in their chairs trying to determine the right mix, lest they have to kiss their (fly) ash goodbye.

I actually remember those catalogs, but not the Manhattan one. Can't imagine the pile I would have now had I kept all the old catalogs. After seeing these I wish I had at least kept some.

Somewhere I have a few of the early Land's End catalogs, "The Racing Sailor's Equipment Guide", which had wonderful photo articles on various boats and how they were outfitted with gear. Then sometime in the 70's they started making duffle bags, and the rest is history.

I also remember "The Crow's Nest" out of NYC- mostly boat stuff like beanbag ashtrays , etc. I used to make lists for my father to think about.

Of course I also have a beautiful chronometer from Abercrombie and Fitch, way back in the day.

Yeah, just thought I'd float that one out there. I'm done now, I'm throwing in the trowel.

I'm uncertain of my footing here, my speech is getting slurry, I feel shaken to my very foundation, might as well lay me out on the slab.

This entire exchange is in poor form! We should be cementing our relationships and making concrete improvements around here.

Is there a cure ? Or are we set in our ways? Anyone else want to float some ideas out here?

My aggregate concerns about this thread have hardened my resolve to pour myself into this subject even more.

The only thing I can think of is that we haven't discussed drinking and a place to do it. RE: Bar
