Scantlings

Back in the late 80s I visited my sister in Florida. She had (still has) a friend named Ann. My sister introduced us and when I found out she was into cars, I ended up spending most of my visit at her place.

At the time, she had a late model MGB and a late 80s (2nd gen) RX7. We took the MGB up and down the FL coast and she let me drive. I was in love with that car.

On the last day of my visit, I was backing the car into it's spot under the car port and I ran into the RX7. It was really embarrassing. And 24 y.o. me didn't have a lot of cash, so the $500 bill took its toll.

Still, she was big about it and in appreciation of her patience and kindness, I made some drawings for her. She recently found them and took some photos for me. This was a real blast from the past

Reminds me of the time that a mate took me for a ride on his Dad's Harley. For some reason he pulled off the road into the wet boggy grassy verge and then got the bike dirty getting back onto the road.

After we got back to the house I was washing it and went to move it a little to get to a dirty patch on the rear wheel and the bike fell over. Front fender buckled and scratches on the indicator housing were not cheap to fix.

Harley had some horrible stand that the bike just went up onto rather than up and over a little and I wasn't careful enough when I moved it.

That incident has stuck in my mind and from then on I have been VERY careful with other people's toys and generally hands off all together.

I would expect to see sketches lkke that on the pages of Road & Track back in the day. I like 'em. Have you done ant boats?

No, they are way too small. Hard to get the detail right. I myself will not work on anything smaller than a termite.

Once I learned Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I gave up hand drawing. I should go back to it. It's quite relaxing.
