Scantlings

So for the last few years I have been the Foundation Director of the Tasmanian Rural Medical Generalist Pathway, helping young postgrad doctors to train for remote medical practice.

On of my registrars Fellowed recently, she is in our program, but completed her training at the other end of the country, the Northern Territory.

Last week we interviewed for my replacement, and will appoint a great young woman doctor as Director in January.

I am still working P/T as a postgrad educator, but it's a great privilege to set up a program for doctors of this caliber.

Congrats, Olaf. She looks like the real deal. We really need to make primary care more elite in this country.

Congratulations Olof, when you are REALLY ready to retire I stand by to mentor you.

(You already have the proper equipment for retirement in that you own THREE sailboats!!)

These guys are at the sharp end of primary care round here OM.

They Fellow with credentialed skills in primary care, acute care including ED and generalised inpatient care, plus a "specialised" skill needed in a remote community, which may be procedural such as anaesthetics, obstetrics or surgery, or non procedural such as psychiatry, paediatrics, or aged care.

Not much room for them in urban or regional areas, but they are gold for remote communities.

I like her comments about her up bringing (no TV until she was 12) and her realization that she was not fit for city living. Sounds like a pretty cool gal.

Kim, these folks are not the sort of people who fit into a "one size fits all" program.

We did one of her training plan meetings over coffee while she was waiting for the ferry to Bruny Island .....
