Great American Cloths

I'm a big believer in high-quality gear. There are two brands I wanted to post here because I think they're great for sailors.

First is Smartwool. They are run by VFC which is NYSE: VFC they are a big company (over $12b in revenue) and have a number of sports brands. The Smartwool stuff, from the socks to the long underwear, is simply amazing. Warmer than ploy when wet and doesn't stink. If you haven't worn Smartwool under your foulies, you really owe it to yourself.

Second is American Giant. They are a local company (SF HQ) and manufacture everything in the US using US manufactured fabrics. Their stuff is all cotton (almost) and once you put one of their sweatshirts or work shirts on you will never buy a different brand. In climates where it's too warm for wool, I think these guys make the best there is.

It is never too warm for wool, you just switch to the lighter weight stuff. (I love Smart Wool, wear it all the time.)

Smartwool is good. I have about 6 pairs of their socks. Ibex makes a lot fewer things, but cuts and sews their clothes in the USA(!) from NZ wool and they gave me a free shirt when the guy was hawking them on SA right after he started the company. I have worn two of their heavy tops for years--one made for cycling, which I wear to work every day in the winter. The stuff is excellent in every way.

I bolded the part that I probably should have said.

Also, I mistyped. I meant "Clothes" not "Cloths" in the title. Ah me.....

Victoria's Secret would be a great American Cloth. Oh wait, perhaps not sewn in the 'lower 48' as they say in Alaska. :D

The American Giant stuff looks nice. But do they make stuff for short people?

LOL !! Jamie, I'm only 5'7" and the medium hoodie is perfect on me. I'm sure you'll find something. (They do tend to choose tall skinny models!)

Daughter in NH turned me on to that extraordinarily intelligent Wool company and I've been a consistent customer for awhile now...particularly around Xmas time-- I mean, who doesn't want a couple three pairs of smaht wool Sox? (as long as they aren't Red)

Will give the American Giants a look, too...although I prefer the San Francisco Giants.

Didn't know SmartWool was owned by VF. Great product!

Rarely wear cotton except for dress shirts. Under Armour changed warm weather clothing.
