Farell's donuts are still GREAT! Indeed, they are FAR TOO GREAT and hit the spot on a drive home after a long day sailing and drinking at the SCYC.
The poor cement ship is falling apart

Eric, you can probably go to the Mexican restaurants in Salinas now, but it helps a lot to try and speak Spanish. I stop there often for huevos rancheros on my way to LA.
The water is still FREAKING COLD! But for some reason the M&Ms don't seem to mind.
Santa Barbara is almost exactly like Santa Cruz but costs about twice as much and doesn't have a giant redwood forest 5 minutes away. The sailing is also a LOT better in Santa Cruz (their harbor silts up each winter too) because we get "real wind" vs the wimpy 6-12 knots they get in SB.

My brother-in-law hauled in almost 30 lbs of chanterelle mushrooms after the last rain, and we're still getting about a dozen other varieties. (We don't pick the psychedelic ones - I'm crazy enough as it is.)
My beloved granddaughters, the M&Ms, measure themselves against the "You have to be this tall" sign at the Giant Dipper roller coaster each time we go to the boardwalk. They are eagerly awaiting their first ride with Opa. They stay with their YaiYai while I go and yell at them from the car as it speeds by. I shout encouraging things like: "Oh, NO, I'm going to die!!" They now think that's funny. The first time.... well..... not so much. Thankfully YaiYai told them their Opa was crazy and just kidding! (There are a number of really good reasons for marrying a calm reliable woman if you're a nutty guy.)
