Didn't you tell me you were done aging after your last birthday?

Happy Birthday to one my favorite ever guys to sail with.

Oh, the irony of Eric posting a Happy Birthday to me, as in actually it was HIS BIRTHDAY! Obviously, he was just trying to garner HIS OWN set of congratulations.

Unfortunately, I wasn't on Scantlings much yesterday with all the Birthday Festivities, boating, eating seafood, seafood fighting back, and the obligatory torrential rainfall for 3-4 hours, bringing our YTD precip total to 44.38 inches, where 43.62 is our average ANNUAL total.

HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY OM!
& hope you had a great meal at Et Voila!

[edit] BTW, OM and I are not twins. I'm a bit older than he, and much more bitter and ignorant. AND THANKS FOR ALL THE WELL WISHES, FOLKS!

'Twas ok...but one disturbing component:

We've really discovered the boat works so well as a little (electric) power skiff...pulling up the board and gunkholing and beaching the boat on beachy points and islands...I fear I'm turning into a darksider.

I know: take it to Darkside Scantlings.

Thanks, Kim.

I can't get too delusional. I think if I stuck a 20 HP on the stern and went for a ride, it would pound itself into a pile of splinters and glue.

Still, that could make for an interesting video...hmmm....

Paul Bieker turned a ultimate 30 into a usable powerboat. I think he had 20 HP on her.

Definitely! That Riptide line is the shizzle McDrizzle! I love the drop-prop idea with the fixed blades...I wonder how well it works?

But all-in-all, a white boat with a sprit, thin keel foil and bulb, and chines: what's not to love? :)

I kind of assume you all knew who Paul was.

He is the engineer who solved the foil problem for Oracle allowing them their stunning comeback in the America’s Cup. He is a foil wizard.

He is a VERY talented designer whose I-14’s seem to dominate. He designed Jonathon McKee’s DARK STAR.

He designed a powerboat for me some years ago that started me on the quest to figure out the sailor’s powerboat puzzle.

He contributed ideas to the Sliver Project.

He was mentored early on by Bob Perry.

Nice understated guy.

Paul is a very nice guy and really smart. Eric Jolley his business partner is great too. Eric was in my class at Evergreen. I interviewed with them before I got my current job but they were between projects. It would have been fun working with them.

Knew the name, and knew the Riptide boats, but things are pretty provincial over here on the east coast. If is isn't one of the gaggle of Herreshoffs or Bruce Farr we don't really pay much attention.

We sorta set in our ways over here....
