Medical Alerting Systems

My mother is currently using Medical Guardian Premium to monitor for falls and emergency alerting. After 6 months, the products inconsistency is troubling. She will be reading a book (or other latent activity) and the alarm goes off. Yesterday she actually fell off a chair and the alert DIDN'T go off. Fortunately she wasn't hurt... 90 yrs old with no spleen, and still tough as nails. An ambulance then shows up at her house 3+ hrs later responding to the "emergency".

We are considering switching systems, but research is tough due to reviews based on advertising or click-through revenue . Any feedback is appreciated !

I haven't investigated personally, but I do know that the new Apple Watch is supposed to address this problem. It will call emergency services (or anyone else you decide it should call) if there is a hard fall followed by no movement. It also gives the person who fell the ability to call for help immediately. It doesn't screw with some 3rd party but calls 911 directly, so far as I know.

You might look into it. There are numerous other things that the Apple Watch 4 does which could be useful, like heart rate, activity monitoring and nagging, etc....

When my 96 yr old stepmother had a series of TIAs (transient ischemic attack, something like a mini-stroke) we got her one of those alert gadgets but she refuses to use it. She is still pretty active and really values being independent. About the only thing she could accept is having people come to her house during the day to help her cook and clean up. It was difficult finding people who she could get along with but eventually we found a combination of professionals during the week and family and friends on the weekends worked the best. I hope you find something that works.

That's more alarming than the wonky alarm!
