Happy Tipsy Eve!
Posted: Mon Dec 23, 2019 3:34 amOn December 23rd, Tipsy Eve is celebrated in Newfoundland (and other places). Needless to say, ''Tipsy Eve', gets its name from the quantity of booze consumed. However, it's also known as 'Tibs Eve', in a reference to an archaic slang word for a sexually promiscuous woman!
The reason--apparently during Advent one was not supposed to consume alcohol until Christmas Day. 'Tipsy Eve' became a convenient excuse to get a head start on drinking two days before--with friends and family!
