What a wonderful thing. Do something good for your customers and garner good will for your company. Whoever thought it up was brilliant. Sadly I don't think anything like that would happen in the U.S.. Well maybe Southwest would do it, or perhaps Virgin.

That's super cool.

I guess they are today what Southwest used to be. Herb Kelleher was the model for what a CEO should be.

WestJet is currently a very well run operation. They have made the staff true partners - shares etc. instead of simply CALLING them "partners" or "associates" which is corporate code for minimum wage serfs.

My wife's niece is a flight attendant with them and she loves it. To give you an example of the culture there - the flight crew - captain on down - all clean up the plane's cabin between flights.

They are also expanding in a very measured and prudent way - little chance of being trashed by expanding too quickly like so many other companies. Their whole fleet is 737's as well, to reduce servicing costs.
