Just a quick Merry Christmas to all for this great maritime web site, totally enjoyed the intelligent commentaries and off beat humour provided the past year. Looking forward to another year of interesting reads and designs leading to the launching of now and future famous boats. Pam and Ed and the critters.

Happy Holidays to one and all!!

The Solstice is my favorite holiday!! It's all better from here on in. These other holidays are fun, but there's something about shooting a noon sight on the winter solstice that really marks each year for me.

You are a great gang to hang out with. Stay healthy, safe, sane and loved.

I think it was almost exactly a year ago that Lin, whom I dearly hope to meet some day, invited me to sign up. Thank you Lin, Rick, and of you who make this community. Happy holidays and a healthy, prosperous, and peaceful new year.

Looking good Jess !

For all us old timers...... a trip in the way-back machine, courtesy of NASA and liberally cut/pasted from Weather Underground.

Christmas 1968:

During the original broadcast, the three astronauts read from the Genesis passage which states, “God said, 'Let there be light' and there was light.” Each read a portion, adding, “From the crew of Apollo 8 we close with good night, good luck, a merry Christmas, and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth.”

X-mas eve here, and I'm taking great pleasure in telling my (8yo) son that if he leaves behind something good (milk and cookies etc.) then Santa will remember this house, and that that will bode well next year.

Still kind of buggs me that X-mas is all about a fat bloke in a red suit, did something happen a couple of thousand years ago or is that just all hear - say?

Jeroen.

Happy Christmas to all from the antipodes.

Christmas happens here in the middle of summer, but we still manage to get together and eat, but prawns, lobster and salmon are on the menu as well as Turkey.

May get out on the water, or go to the beach. Backyard game of cricket is obligatory.

I have really appreciated you guys this year, thanks for being there.

Bob, I was given a 2014 desktop calendar of your custom caricatures as a gift. "Mystic" is standing by and ready to go for January. Wonderful sketches.

Love it! Bob did the above for my daughter Adele, which is way beyond kind. She's a lucky kid.

Adele clearly has a mast height and draft restriction compared to last year.

Bob has a big heart (ssssshhhh) and the one he did for your daughter is fantastic. I love how he incorporated an horsheoe into the "A" as I know she enjoys riding. Sadly, "Adele" is not in the 2014 Calendar, but we get to see it here and other places.

"I love how he incorporated an horsheoe into the "A" as I know she enjoys riding"

Yeah, that was really clever of me.
I meant to do that, really I did.

The difference in the two cartoons for Adele is that last years was drawn on acad. This years cartoon was all hand drawn. I had a pen issue last year so I resorted to acad. This year I managed to find new pens and I am back to drawing the cartoons by hand.

Here is one I did on acad this year that came out pretty good. I got my new pens ( the samne pens I used 35 years ago) the day I finished this cartoon on acad so I was able to add some hand drawn details to try and breath some vitality into it. I did it for my buddy Jeff. I think he has about 15 of these on his wall. Maybe more. Time flies.

Merry Christmas and peace to all of you, may you be surrounded by the love of family and friends. Special love from the family for Lin, and well wishes for Tim in his recovery, great shipmates both.

I spent last week in Bonaire with Chris, diving, snorkeling and windsurfing, it was pretty darned good fun, but I started missing my sweetheart pretty badly, and was glad to get home.

Hopefully the new year will bring sailing with some of the folks here, both those I've already met and/or sailed with, and the "new best friends" I've never met.

Merry Christmas to all. Been tied up in happy and sad family issues for the last couple of months and have been somewhat of an infrequent poster lately but always find the time to scan through the posts and catch up with my circle of friends.

To you and yours, enjoy the season and share a bit of your blessings with those less fortunate. Despite religious, political and ethnic differences, we're all together on this marble and this is a great time to reach out to others.

Larry

To learn the "truth" about Santa Claus, you may want to watch the movie "Rare Exports". Here is the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RQlikX4vvw

Yes, it a Finnish movie, and I think it's available on Netflix.

Here are some short "Safety Instructions" clips that are on the DVD special features:

OK, it's not Citizen Cane, but it's a fun movie. Not suitable for young children.
