Early morning fun

Postby LarryHoward » Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:41 am

Nothing like walking out to the car to head to the office and finding the drive blocked by a fallen tree. A wet week soaked the ground and a standing dead tree decided it had had enough. Nothing like chainsawing in the rain before work.

On other dead tree news, a pair of ospreys seem to have adopted a dead tree about 20 meters from our dock as a nesting spot. As long as they like the tree better than the mast 30 meters from the tree, I'll be fine. Eagles favor that tree in the winter so could be fun this fall when the avian exchange gets going.

may be worth tying that tree off to other trees to keep it there for a while. You know, to keep those ospreys happy and all.

Nice idea but the tree in question is the one closest to the dock. It's not going to tie off to anything. Ospreys like some space around them. I looked at getting a permit to take it out. Only a $4,000 tree surgeon opportunity and it will probably fall in sections (as it has started to) with a small percentage of hitting the pier. Now that a protected species is setting up house, a permit is a non starter anyway. Sailboat was in the yard for it's peel and relaminate when this shot was taken.
