I looks like a friendly wager may be in order....

Postby BeauV » Thu Feb 20, 2014 9:37 am

Lin was amazingly nice to fetch me and mail me a CANADA rugby shirt - it's by far the nicest in my collection (even better than my All Blacks one).

But, now WHAT AM I TO DO. It appears that CANADA & the US will be nose-to-nose, skate-to-skate and stick-to-stick and I can't jolly well show up at my YC with a CANADA rugby shirt on!!

I'm thinkin' a friendly wager is in order - after all, there's real national pride on the line here!

I'd never wager against a lady, and Lin is a true lady. My momma didn't raise no ill-mannered boor. But it sure seems that the CANADA Scantlingers and the US Scantlingers should figure out some way to get a bet down on this match! Maybe it's who buys the beer at Kim's launching? Something good for us all like that.

How are you going to get the US team to buy beer for Kim's launch?

A timely post Beau! My boss (Yank) and another designer in my office (Canuck) have wagered that whichever team wins, the loser has to sing the winners national anthem at lunch time in the shop lunch room. This will be fun.

I like the singing idea! Perhaps the loosing country's Scantlingers need to sing the other countries national anthem and post the video of it here! That should be hilarious!!!

If we lose do we sing the "Official English" or "Official French" version??

I only know the English version:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

I can't pronounce much of the French version:

Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

The Canadian Women's hockey team just won gold. I think that's a good portent.

Britches, I think this is the time that all the American women on this board have to sing. Send in your videos!

Beau, it's not like Canada is ever likely to threaten anyone in rugby, so you are safe to wear that jersey anywhere, anytime.
On the other hand, leave the All Blacks on at home if you go anywhere there is an Aussie.
Do you have a wallabies one?

OH,

I don't have a wallabies jersey, and really should round out my collection. I'm currently sitting her in my Auckland Blue-n-White rugby jersey, one of my favorites. I have quite the collection. While walking down the street today my lovely Admiral pointed out that I looked like I just stepped out of the '70s; my response was: "And your point is??"

I'll go find some green and yellow stuff.

I also need a nice ORANGE one from the Nederland's national team.

Beau, you will need to wear Norwegian Curling pants with your orange jersey.

Are white belts and shoes making a comeback? Should I rush down to Value Village and stock up before the frenzy hits?

I have been at work since 6:30 and missed all this.

ps ... I don't drink beer, so I shall graciously accept a glass of a smooth, full bodied red wine in lieu of the beer. I am am confident it won't be us Canuckleheads buying. : )

They can't make a comeback since they were never acceptable in civilized society in the first place.

Around here we call white tie, white belt and white shoes "The Full Nanaimo" - only small town car salesmen wear it.

Somehow it just seems right to have the country whose national sport is ice hockey win the Olympic Gold in the sport.
