The Esquimalt Graving Dock is the largest non-military hard bottom dry dock on the west coast of the Americas. The Esquimalt Graving Dock is 357.5 metres (1,200 feet) long by 38.4 metres (135 feet) wide. The north landing wharf is 305 metres long (1,000 feet) with a depth of 10 metres (30 feet) of water at low tide.

The dock can be divided into one, two or three sections by placing caissons, a floating gate ballasted with concrete and sea water, at various fixed positions in the dock basin. A tunnel on the north side is used to fill and empty the dock. This tunnel connects to separate tunnels, enabling each section of the drydock to fill independently through culverts in the floor. Stabilizer pockets in the dock wall allow cruise ships to extend their stabilizers for inspection, maintenance and repair while in drydock.

For reference, the ferry in the graving dock is 457' long and 89' wide.

Back in the 70's and 80's, Port Townsend was churning out new Fiberglass boats at firms such as Cape George Yachts, Skookum, and Radon Craft.

However, these days, traditionally molded glass boat building is all but dead in PT.

Well, it is not quite dead yet.

Behold the the newest Falmouth cutter. We popped her out of the mold this afternoon.

We (Cape George Marine Works) will finish the boat to the owners specifications, hence the green gelcoat.

We will not be using the standard Falmouth Cutter deck/house mold. Instead, a flush deck will be fitted with a small Plexiglass dome for visibility and a spot with headroom, below.

There will not be an inboard engine.

That's where I've seen that color before! Only in metallic. I'm sure if the boot-top and cove-stripe are painted orange it'll look just fine.

I had the opportunity to take a couple of pictures of LIS from the 8th floor of Stamford Hospital. (No worries, everyone's fine)

In the first, LIS is turned to silver by the southern sun. In the second, taken the next morning, the city is covered by an inch or so of new snow.
