Will do.
I'm going to propose we do the new knockers at 3/4 scale. The original is big and heavy. That's why we never installed it. It would damn near knock most doors down.
I think a slightly smaller version with a nice knocker plate would be better.
Let me know if you think this is a good idea.
Maybe I should take more pics with some items added to the pic for scale. I'll do that.
I don't need a door crasher model and smaller might be better.
Good suggestion.

Ed:
You'd need front doors like those on Downton Abbey to have the original.
I just measured it. It's 13" top to bottom and the tail is 5" accross. Total weight about 4 lbs.
A 75% version would be 9.75" top to bottom. That seems right to me. I'd put on that size on my own door.

Yes, I want the 3/4 version.

I'll have Alair make them all 3/4 size unless someone wants the Whopper Knocker. She is fine with multiple orders. I imagine she is overjoyed. She has her own small studio in Georgetown.
Big knockers have their place just not on most doors.

Bob, I'm just reading this. Glad you got Adele's thank you card. She loves making things and liked making your card. Her best work is not drawing sailboats, but horses. I'll scan some of her horse work and send it to you. Now that you guys are buddies she will love the idea of your seeing it.

She asked about the keel and rudder shapes on the little picture she drew in your card, was a little self conscious about them. I said they were unusual but it was good to try new ideas. Based on how well she's doing drawing generally she has potential drawing boats. I've been thinking about how to encourage her.

She had her first piano lesson yesterday and played me a tune she learned this morning. She also plays viola.

Thanks again for making my little girl feel special by giving her the cartoon. She appreciates it and it means a lot to her.

I've been watching the 3rd season of Downton Abbey with Ann. I find Lady Grantham and her daughters very attractive each in her own interesting way.

Keith:
I've been into Downton Abbey from the start. I went to bed Sunday night content that all is well at DA. Of course Bates has some problems that do not appear to be getting any better and Thomas is about to get his ass kicked by O'Reilly but he desereves it I'm glad the family doesnt have to move to Downton Place althoughn I must say I rather thought it looked like a splendid residence if somewhat modest. It's suit me just dandy. Bob Edwards did a great interview with Carson and Thomas on NPR about 10 days ago on a Saturday. They had very interesting insights.

Bob, we've been watching Downton Abbey from the beginning too. When Matthew was finally in a position to save Downton and proposed giving money to Lord Grantham I thought, "he can't accept it!" But the solution, an "investment," was obvious. I was giddy with happiness, embarrassingly so as Ann knows I'm a simple man. I thought that humble getaway was pretty nice also. I missed the NPR interview.

Adele smiled when I mentioned sending her horse drawings to you at dinner tonight.

And a toast to whoever had the good sense to give Maggie Smith all the good lines, such as (as I remember):

Sorry Beau. Still watch it just to see the cars if nothing else.

I'm going to send all of you interested in knockers a pm with Alair's email address. I think it's best that each one place his order individually. I have advised Alair that she should quote the same deal for everyone.
I sent her six more photos yesterday along with basic dimensions of the 3/4 scale knocker.

I will ask her to stay as faithful to the original as possible But given that each one is a one off work of art there are bound to be variations. I'm sure all of you know that.
You could talk to Alair about doing the knocker tail in bronze. She did my Spike in bronze. It's a bit more money but I think worth it. I'm sure we will see some slight reduiction in price due to having four made. I may even get another one for myself so I can put it on my door.

Let's get back on knocker track.

Alair will do it but she wants to build one first to see what it will cost. That makes sense.
I have told her to go ahead and I'll take the first one if no one else wants it.
But I suspect she will be surprisingly cheap. Too cheap. But we can work with her for a fair price.
She cannot get started for a week and a half. I'd call that two weeks.

I will keep you all abreast of the knocker situation.

Fine. Can we see Wayne Newton?

I can't wait to introduce you guys to Alair.
She has a big tattoo on her calf. It says, "SPIKE".
She got it within a week after Spike's death.
They were good buds.

Years (and years) ago, my wife played in a show for Wayne. According to her, he was a fantastic musician--in addition to the vocals, he played many instruments, and well. Put on a great show, surrounded himself with the best musicians he could find, and let them shine.

Bob have you heard from Alair ? How is that Whale Tail project coming along? Maybe she could share some words about how she got involved in a hot job like black smithing. We are in a deep freeze in Southern Ontario and when I watch the national weather I realize that I am at the wrong end of the country. Leave some space for me out west when I retire. :D
