Visiting the PNW

We have added a week in the PNW to our next trip to Denver to play with the grandson, flying in 29 August and flying out to LA on 4 September.
Hiring a car and keen to do a "road trip" to explore the area.
Sweet Hart and I would appreciate your suggestions, and maybe a chance to catch up with folks.

We are right between the PNW and LA, kinda in the way. We'd love to have you stop by. Also, when you're in LA, if you're there for a while, we can go play on MAYAN.

Sure! No Hawaii this year. We have a hint that we might get Grandchild 2.0 in January. Still waiting for confirmation, but that'll cut into our long-range sailing plans.

It is NEVER too cold to sail in So. Cal. There is just light wind and no wind depending on the time of year. We may, however, have MAYAN up in Santa Cruz by October 2014 and be around the center of CA until at least mid-summer 2015.

We tend to get out of the city and avoid bookings where we can.
Waterfronts and their bars seem to be our usual destinations, we are looking forward to a few ferry trips to explore the islands.
I do have a pilot my son gave me (he is pretty keen for us to leave a boat around there somewhere), so there should be plenty to do in a week.

You will be leaving just before the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival gets going (September 5-7), but there are lots of cool boats here anytime. I am 99% sure Panope will be here and in the water. You would be welcome aboard for a day sail and a beer if you can make it up this way.

I didn't think of the festival, I made it to the Mystic one last year and we have the Hobart one next January .

We may go to Port Townsend at the end of the trip. See if we can get a preview ...

I should have posted before we booked, I live and learn.

If I could catch the Port Townsend show, I would only have to go to La Rochelle and Douarnez and that would be another tick on the bucket list.

We'll be away in Desolation Sound at that time, unfortunately...maybe next time you visit you can squeeze in a trip to Vancouver Island.
