cap10ed wrote:Bob have you heard from Alair ? How is that Whale Tail project coming along? Maybe she could share some words about how she got involved in a hot job like black smithing. We are in a deep freeze in Southern Ontario and when I watch the national weather I realize that I am at the wrong end of the country. Leave some space for me out west when I retire. :D

How about a nice 3-bedroom house 5 minutes from downtown Victoria and 5 minutes from the bucolic countryside? Only $500K.
I know it sounds like a lot compared to most of Ontario, but you could swipe Keith's ashtray for at least half of it.

What does a nice two room tree house loft go for these days on the island. Kick the squirrels out and I’ll handle the reno. I figured anything with water in the sentence adds $250,000. I liked Bob’s mini house thread at CA. Small footprint houses remind me of the efficiencies of boats. :D

Ed:
Alair wants to build one knocker to see how much it costs. She will do that soon. She's an artist so I'm not exactly sure what "soon" means.

I'll tell you about Alair. Alair is an attractive 5'5" lesbian who worked with Spike at the forge. She and Spike bonded. Alair showed up at Spike's wake with a new tatoo, a big flourishing "SPIKE" on her generous calf. She stayed working at the forge for almost another month. Then she left to open her own studio. She told me that "Without Spike there I just couldn't handle it." Spike had that effect.

Alair has always called me Mr. Perry. It was weird at first but I'm used to it now and I like it. No one else calls me Mr. Perry.

We have a couple of pieces on order with Aalair. She'll get to it when she is ready. She does stay in contact with me.
Please take a look at my blog. I think you will find it interesting and entertaining:

My wife Pam is an artist and she doesn’t wear a watch. Artist time starts at noon I am told. Thanks for the update Bob. She sounds like a cool gal. Here is a link to being an artist. Love this clip.

Bob has Alair gotten back to you on the Whale Tail project? If she has passed on it I will understand.Ed

WOW - and here I thought that gate was ultra cool - until I saw this. No way can that be called "blacksmithing" no matter what the tools and procedures were - that is pure sculpture.

You're retired, right? (aka terminally unemployable).
Why don't you meet up with us at Friday Harbor (and VALIS and a couple other friends) and come down to the Spike Memorial Sailpast and Beach BBQ? Details on CA.

June 29.
Hey, we're making a major effort to be there, I haven't been out of Canada since

I can't remember. It's been a long time.

I'm bringing bacon. Bob, what's that pipe tobacco you can't get in the Fatherland?

Ed:
I was a Amphora (brown) smoker from my collge days ( 44 cents a pouch back then). I like the Engish style blends but many of them are gone now or farmed out to be made by other companies. I liked Escudo and I can still get that, but Three Nuns and St. Brunos have dissapeared. Certain tobaccos remind me of events and times in my life so once and a while I like to go back and have a little pipe memory adventure.

For the last 20 years I have been getting all my tobacco from The Old Virginia Tobacco Company. When Amphora stopped being imported I went off looking for a replacement. OVTC has a cavendish style tobacco they call Old Virgina Flake. It's far better than Amphora an I have bee smoking it almost exclusively for many years. It costs about $32 per pound, around that. It's an unflavored straight tobacco but I get a lot of compliments on the smell. When I order more I also have them throw in some smal cans of McLellands blends. They are all very good but my favorite is Black Woods Flake. It's not cheap so I usually add it to my OVFlake to give it a bit more body. If you want contact info for OVTC send me a pm. I have smoked Borkum Riff but it's ground up way too fine for me and burns a bit hot for my taste. I only smoke outdoors now so I need a tobacco that is pretty roughly rubber out so that it burns slowly in the wind.

I had the guys from the band I was playing in at the time up to the shack. These guys are young guys with young families. Kevin's son is Leo and at that time Leo was about 5 years old. I was sitting in the yard smoking my pipe and Leo was watching me. He slowly walked over to me and in a very serious 5 year old voice asked, "Are you a dragon?"
