Eric:
About 20 years ago I came very close to playing in a punk band in Seattle, SLAM SUSAN. I knew the guitar player. He was about 22 years old. They were desperate for a bass player at the time and I volunteered.
Their CD was called ON THE FLOOR WITH YOUR MOM.
They wanted me to sing one song off the cd. The song was "I LIKE TO SAY FUCK".
But fate stepped in and provided the band with a much younger and more appropriate bass player. I was a little dissapointed though.

Eric. Although not the same as what you have I suffered with spinal stenosis for 3-4 years until it got so bad I nearly collapsed from the shooting pains in my legs. My posture sucked as well because I had to lean forward to keep pressure off the nerves. I went in for surgery and noticed immediately that I could stand up straighter than I had in a long time without any pain. Ten years later I still feel great. My brother had serious spine/disc problems and had great success with surgery. I hope you find relief soon.

From the pictures your mom looks like a hoot. Great shots.

Oh boy, Joe. I've seen bad lumbar stenosis and it's worse than my little issue. I just hope it's not in the cards for me with my lousy spine. I had it in my neck, which was very scary, but at least it didn't hurt.

I'm better today and thanks for the kind wishes.

Eric,

That is really good news. Glad you're walking. For me, that's always the step that tells me I'm getting better.

Just saw my surgeon, who was very reassuring, and got a shot from the anesthesiologist. That last was both the most painful and best procedure anyone has ever done on me. I'm going to shuffle slowly into town and pick up my new progressive shades now. I'll start PT tomorrow and maybe get to a critical meeting in the pm, if it feels OK.

Shuffled to PT today and was assigned lots of core work and stretching . To work for an hour or two tomorrow, the gym for a little upper body on Sat, and cautiously back on the bike next week.

OK guys, since Eric is laid up we need volunteer surrogates to do workouts on his behalf. I'm in to do 50 pullups/chinups and 100 pushups, for which he'll get credit. I'm starting now.

Who's in to do some cardio for him?

I’ll go old school and open a real book and turn some real pages. I found a book with almost 250 pages. Wish me luck. All for your health Eric. Get better and soon. ;)

I went to see my doctor This morning. Dr. Purnima Patel.
She is this vivacious little Indian gal with a very attractive air about her.
She said I drink too much. I asked her if she drank. She said, "Maybe one drink a year. But I don't finish it."
Fuck!
She checked me out thoroughy. " Can I see that crotch fungus?" "No."
" you need to take more showers. The cure is in your hand." She said that.
She probed around where my chest pain is. She poked.
" Does this hurt?"
" No it feels good. If I roll over can you do that for half an hour on my backr?"

I have had this weird topical pain below my left lower rib for about three weeks.
I self diagnosed it as cancer. I tend to diagnose every little pain as cancer.
She says it's not cancer. She says it is inflamed nerve endings. There is nothing I can do about it.
Fuck! I was hoping for a pill.
I am going to call it my "Spike pain". When I feel it and it bothers me I'm going to think about Spike. My idea of what "pain" is has been adjusted in the last year and a half. I know pain. This is a different, silly pain.

She says I'm healthy. My heart beats too much but that's all right according to her. I have some extra heart beats. But they are regular in an irregular kind of way. They did an EKG. "Oh yeah I can see those extra beats."
I'm kind of thinking I may have listended the the Byrds "EIGHT MILES HIGH" too many times. Roger McGuinn's guitar solo probably affected my heart. Plus I have this silly Petit Mal thing going for me.
She says I appear healthy. I don't feel healthy. I have very little faith in doctors for very obvious reasons.

I had more fun with my accountant yesterday.

Ed:
I didn't say that stuff. This is stuff that other people said. Not sure I can lay claim to that stuff.
Sometimes I go over, in my mind, some of my very personal adventures. I think they must be profound.
But they are not. They are just my life seen through my eyes and while they may be profound to me I'm sure we have all had similar adventures.

I kept a log book, a journal, for years. I jutted down all my thoughts while I worked in Taiwan. ALL MY THOUGHTS. I thought i was profound.
I'd be by myself with strange things happening around me so I'd write then down as a way to process them. Me talking to me.
I hid the journal away. It was way too personal to share. I would take it out from time to time and read it. Then I'd hide it in a new place.
As I re-read my journal it became obvious that it was not about weird shit happening in Taiwan. It was about me growing up. I was in my 30's and earky 40's.

But I could never let anyone read the journal. Not while I was alive.
I became so adept at hiding it that today I have no fucking idea where it is.
It's here. Somewhere. Maybe my wife found it and burned it. That would make sense. It does get a wee bit steamy in places.

Words are fun notes to play.

Thank you, Kim. Get your friends to kick in a nickel a mile for my vicarious recovery and we'll get us a bottle of vintage, single-barrel, Glen Snorthsnaigh of Ishlmick, a quart of ginger ale, and a bag of ice.

I'll be off steroids soon, so I'm going to enjoy being silly now.

Bob,

Spencer Tracey once said: "Acting is easy, you just say your lines." All those silly things you wrote down about life, they might just be real. Real stuff is much better than made up stuff.

BV

Edit: I was out drinking with friends, in case that didn't make sense. Mde sense to me :D
