There must be an old sailor's term for sitting with a bit of small stuff and practicing splices 'n knots... Sounds like a great way to sit out the blow.
(I have to stay away from Wikipedia.... just tried to look this up and wasted 15 minutes correcting various nautical definitions. The infinite time sink!)
