I live in SEATTLE (home of Starbucks) and I had no idea where the local Starbucks was (Susan just told me where it is.)

I drink tea, all sorts of different teas, never coffee. I find that I spend around 10-20 cents a cup depending on which tea I am favoring (it was Mark T. Wendell Hu-Kwa today.)

Why spend $3 or more for a cup when you don't even get the pleasure of making it yourself using the proper technique?

Most people have no idea how to make a proper cup of tea. (Or as English rally co-driver Ellen Morgan once told me during my automobile rally days: "The only thing you can make with hot water is brown water, to make tea you need furiously boiling water." And then you have to steep the tea for the proper amount of time for that specific tea.)

My brother is a tea expert who spent several months learning about it in China and is working on a book about it. He is very careful about the temperature of the water and may throw out the first pot made from a portion of tea. When he has made tea for us, we always have several pots and observe how the taste changes. All tastes about the same to me, but I'm a pig.

I do, but I don't shop there. Safeway or Giant for most everything.

I drink coffee and tea but I'm not sophisticated about either. I find something I like and stick with it. Usually it's cheap. Likewise with wine. My favourite is about $12 a bottle.

Well we use a pre warmed Port Meirion tea pot. It's English, so it must be OK.

Why is the Brown Betty better? (I wonder if I can find Ellen again and ask her for her take on the matter, she was VERY serious about tea.)

I have no idea but I do know that it is. Maybe it's the essentially spherical shape. They are always heavy pottery as well so they retain the heat well.

P.S. I just looked up your pot - it looks like a fancy finish Brown Betty - same shape etc.

On the windward side of the house, the updraft off the bank and backdraft off the house have combined to create an 18-20' standing "wave" on the deck, abot 6' from the house with bare deck against the wall. Leeward sode has 8-10" drifts against the house. "Thundersnow"predicts for midnight and a shift to heavy blowing snow by 0200 lasting for 18-20 hours. Wind will build to 35G50+ by shortly after dawn.

Holy shit! They weren't kidding. A good 14-18" here nor no sign of letup. I'm putting steel-cut oats into the other Dr Munn, cause she's going to be doing a lot of shoveling.

This storm seems to be meeting expectations. At least 16" with some decent drifting. Ella is suitably impressed. I'm not looking forward to shoveling.

So much drifting that it's hard to tell how much more we got overnight but listened to sleet plinking off the windows overnight so that will keep our total down. Guessing we are at 10-12 so far. Winds meeting forecast down here with gusts to 35 so far. Forecast is for winds to increase during the day so we'll see how that goes.

We are at about 16" here west of Baltimore. Still really coming down out there, we are right on the edge of the 18-24 and 20-who cares grab another glass of wine area. I think we will top out around 2'. Drew got the first shoveling duty of the day so I am making eggs and pumpkin pancakes if roads get cleared tomorrow we might bust out the jeep and go snowboarding.

This morning I spent some time writing up notes from last summer's Bermuda Race. I have other stuff to do, grades for example, but for some reason I just felt like doing it...total procrastination.

Right now, we just got in from 20 minutes of shovelling, me and The Kid. I told her what we were doing, in essence, was shovelling the Gulf Stream out of our driveway. About 18 inches of it.

I think it is possible to both LOVE and HATE the Gulf Stream.
