Final Report:

Paddy came to the pub last night, and a cup of soup, and a salad! After the soup, he consumed the salad in great forkfuls with great gusto. It was like watching yard waste being loaded into a shredder. I couldn't bring myself to say anything.

More interesting was the shirt he had on. It was a red button-down shirt with a Merck corporate logo. Remember, this is after a pick-up soccer game. I figured he came to the game from work, changed in his car, played, and decided the shirt would make him spiffy for the pub.

Anyhow, he got up to leave after polishing off the salad, and we all noticed the shirt: "Paddy, do you work at Merck?" "Or do you shirk your work at Merck?" and on and on. You will be surprised to know how any words rhyme with Merck and how many silly questions you can make of them and how hilarious it is. Paddy found out and that was probably punishment enough.

In the interest of balance, I think we need to hear a thorough and objective scouting of you from poor Paddy.

I admit that Paddy and I have a little history on the pitch, but you should know that he is an engineer, in the worst sense of the word, and in matters not related to his profession, can barely make himself understood. Perhaps I can document this with discreet use of my iPhone.

You'll have to be subtle.

That oughta work. Maybe if I split the winnings with him.

The final report. Tuesday night, Paddy had a salad. He ate it as described: bent over the bowl (not easy considering his short stature), using the fork in one hand and and the fingers of the other to stuff it in his mouth. I nudged one of my buddies and he just smiled and shook his head. I think we'll not say anything and let Paddy live out his life, eating salad his way.

When he goes we can say of him, "He ate salad his way."

We should all leave such a legacy.

We should buy Paddy a veal chop, just to see what happens. 8-)

I think there's a song......

This verse come to mind:
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
