Yahoo!

A daily news digest from Yahoo! has started showing up on a non-Yahoo! account, e.g. my SemiSalt@MyISP.com account. It has an "unsubscribe" link, but that fails, going to "Unknown URL,no DNS entry. Google search finds only other people complaining about the same bad link and not being about to turn of the emails.

Another great move by Yahoo!.

I think Yahoo is executing its death dance. There are all sorts of things going on in Tumblr that wouldn't have been allowed back when they weren't so desperate for subscribers. It appears that they've been told to get the subscriber base UP, and that mgmt doesn't really care how they get it.

I got exactly the same thing, I just direct incoming Yahoo shit into the trash. They have been having some random dropouts on subsites lately as well. It's a 50:50 chance of getting my Yahoo Finance page vs the generic Yahoo Stupid People Who Shouldn't Be Famous page.

With what's going on, Yahoo is losing Tumblr accounts like crazy. This and similar things are dragging down the company value quite a bit.

It's easy to forget that Yahoo was the the Google for search engines way back when, and were the first to offer free email. I have a legacy account from 1999. So far still reasonable enough to continue with them. Incompetence at taking advantage of me has become a positive these days.

I have an old account because so many of the lists I belonged to were hosted there. As far as I know the nearly moribund Dufour 40 list is still there, as is our very active neighborhood listserv.

The first search engine I used extensively was Alta Vista. Those were the days.
