Yes, John tells me that the artillery crews are mostly deaf after one year despite wearing over-the-ear muffs and in-the-ear plugs. The number of bad backs and knees is amazing. John's Gunny is probably going to be washed out because of his knee after this tour.

Rick, when John was in the process of joining, the recruiter set him up to "go for a walk" with a pair of Seals. They convinced him in two hours that he'd never make it.

Interestingly, the marines the best and most active of all the services in protecting their breachers from blast.

I reckon Sonja would need to have a 'go for a walk' moment ;)

I can see my daughter's disposition for trying this. It's possible I may be partially to blame since I haven't really done much to discourage her and in fact encouraged her to pursue ROTC. I'm sure it doesn't help when, in my best Uncle Rico impression I claim, 'I could have done it'.
