I am very comfortable with that. I think the silence says it all.

Bob, I defended it in post #2. But I certainly don't feel it necessary to try to convince anyone that CF is the place for them. Different strokes, etc.

speaking of silence, Still haven't heard back as to why my ban was lifted.

Floater:
Maybe your's was a "minor offense". Mine must have been "major". But I'm sure I wasn't banned for what I posted. I am certain I was banned for what I said in a couple of PM's and as I recall, one phone call. That's the hypocracy of it. I made the mistake of hurting their feelings. But I did not hurt the forum. I was banned for personal reasons. I'm lucky they didn't sic the IRS on me and tap my phone lines.

Actually, in my case it's rock and roll. Or is that rhythm and blues? I suppose it depends on my mood.

Rick, (by the way) I was back in Helsinki a couple of weeks ago, and Hoku has become a favorite of the extended family (my daughter married a Finn). Ryan is truly a nice guy and really knows how to cook!

awesome!

Ryan taught me how to make sushi. His is an interesting story. He was a marketing guy for Liberty Check back in the late 90s. He did extremely well and decided to 'retire'. Signed up with Cordon Bleu Culinary school in about 2003 or so in St. Paul. Now he owns his own Restaurant in Helsinki. He's very focused. His wife is a native Finn and they have been family friends for quite a while.

After culinary school he had us over for a fantastic dinner. The day before that, one of our daughters had a major stomach flu. As I sat there ready to dig in to a very complete selection of food, the flu hit me instantly. I barely made it to the can. It was pretty embarassing. Never got a chance to eat anything. Luckily there were plenty of left overs. I packed up a bunch and ate after the worst had passed.

I forgot, did you get him to make you some SPAM sushi? You will not believe how good that stuff is. :)

No, not the spam sushi. That does sound like something I would like -- regular sushi I can take or leave... One evening we were at Hoku with a local niece and her boyfriend. Ryan saw us come in and and throughout the dinner was sending over not-on-the-menu extras. He's making home-made coffee ice cream now.

Oh,,,I thought you meant classical and baroque.

Sushi is my very favorite food. I even like Monk Fish liver. I can speak pretty good sushi bar Japanese. "Multuo beeru kudasai!"
A friend took me to a sushi place for lunch one day. Later he said he'd never do that again, "It was like eating with a seal!"
Spam sushi is a new one on me but I like spam. "I'll have spam.spam, spam, spam, spam , spam and spam."

Bob

Ryan is Japanese/Hawai'ian. He was born and raised in Hawai'i. Hated it.

Spam sushi (spam musubi) is a big item with the natives in hawai'i

I hate Spam.
I think the Argentinian canned corned beef is OK, but all the others, including Spam, suck. Klik and Kam are particularly repulsive. Blech.

I always associate Spam with when I was a kid in Australia and Spam was "picnic food", like pig's trotters.
Imagine handing an American kid a pickled pig's foot today.
I like fried Spam and eggs. I like Spam right out of the can. How can something with so much salt and fat in it be bad?

That's one of the (many) reasons I like Hawaii. When I go there I get to eat Spam, and nobody looks at me funny. In northern California you would think I was committing a crime against nature.

Perhaps we can get Spam labeled "ironic", or use it in a flavored Vodka or something. Then I could eat it and be cool:

When I moved to Hawaii, I was stunned at their love affair with Spam. But I have fond memories of Spam as a frequent suppertime standby. Baked, with brown sugar and canned pineapples on it. (Hmmm, it just hit me, that sounds vaguely Hawaiian and I KNOW my mother had never been there! She musta seen it as a recipe on the can or something....)

Bob, if this is directed at me I would be happy to discuss it. Or to not discuss it. Somehow I thought this was ancient history.

Not tomorrow though, I'm on the road.

If it's not directed at me, never mind.

I am thinking that CF is likely quite similar to Sailing Anarchy, Sailnet, Sailing X and every other sailing website/forum.

There are some inspiring and very interesting people that likely visit each of the internet forums who have a wealth of knowledge to share, and many a fascinating story to tell. On the other hand, I have little doubt that I would also come across folks that I would find it difficult to spend five minutes of my time with, on each of those forums.

I s'pose like anything in life, me thinks you will find what you seek to find ... be that positive or negative.

As for SPAM?! YUCK! I tried it last year, with some trepidation (I might have tried it once before in another lifetime) I can promise here and now, it shall not pass by my lips again. Yikes. This is from someone who relishes haggis!

Paul:
Nice of you to say that but I made my comment in a kind of "backhanded" way relative to my banning.
I'm lucky, I can look around and see a modest but highly valued group of good friends. In fact one is coming up to spend the night here today.
Tim (WHL) is spending the weeked in Spike's apartment at the Ballard house while he attends a regatta in Seattle. That's a connection that pleases me. Tim knew Spike.

I've been off the internet for about 30 hours. It's been a little bit like the congressional hearings on Bengazi. I can't get straight talk out of anybody. It's a damn good thing that some poeple have ten fingers to point with. " It's them. It's him. It's those phone guys. It's not me." So after being on the phone numerous times with my IP yesterday and my Computer tech support guy I was assurred that Frontier, my phone service and internet hook up provider, had looked at my problem and determined that my connection was fine. I heard this twice. My IP was going to come out and install a new modem today thinking the modem was faulty. Fine. So about 9am this morning Frontier called and said, "You should be good to go now. We have repaired your connection." Fack! So I resequenced computer, modem and router and voiler! I'm up and running again.

We live in a world where incompetance and bull shit compete for control.
I think I'll apply to be head of the IRS. I'll target powerboaters.
Maybe I should be appointed Attorney General. Holder appears to do and know nothing. I can do that. And,,,I'd get to wear a suit.

Paul:
Well go ahead and flaunt the fact that you at least have a suit. I don't even own one anymore. The last one I owned was a Norman Hilton beauty. I probably wore it six times over ten years. Noty even sure why I bought it.
Now I just show up in a freshly pressed flannel shirt or a shirt from Spike's collection of Pendeltons. I'm afraid to even look at my ties. I have no idea what the fashion in ties is today except what I see the football players wearing with a knot as big as a VW bus. I'll have to try for the Rip Van Winkle look at my next fucntion.

Eric:
I'd have to pin $100 bills all over any suit for it to work as a babe magnet for me.
But, come to think of it, I could do that. I'd go hang out at the Tulalip Casino. I'd be hot.

I wore my suit to a wedding last month.
The previous time was another wedding two years ago, it's getting a real workout.

When I closed my practice, it was spring in Sydney.
Four months later I realised I hadn't worn a pair of socks since I stopped work.

I have the suit I was married in. I think I wore it again within a year, but it's now 20 years of fine English custom tailoring with a genteel layer of dust.
I doubt I can be put on a slab with that suit on without a lot of flensing.
